Meet some of our Junior Consultants...

David Carroll
Application Development
Why did you choose to apply to SMS and your practice?
I chose to join SMS because I was looking for a company that knows its employees are the key to its success. SMS has a great reputation in business and it’s certainly a privilege to work here.
I love the constant challenge that you get working for a consulting company like SMS, every time you go to a new client you get new challenges and meet new people. There is always something to keep you interested and on your toes.
I chose the Application Development Practice because I was looking to work in cutting edge technologies, in particular the Microsoft space (.NET, SharePoint, Silverlight). I love working with most aspects of technology but the user focused development/software is what I find most rewarding.
How would you describe the work you do in not so technical terms?
Working as a technical consultant really varies from site to site in terms of the technologies you get exposed to, however there are some main themes that run across all the projects that I have been involved in.
A lot of my work involves getting to know the client, understanding their needs and concerns, what has worked for them in the past and what hasn't. One of the most challenging, and rewarding aspects of being a consultant is the client interaction. Problem solving is also a key feature and I constantly work on interesting problems (some small and some large) which is what a programmer craves!
What has been the most interesting project you have been involved in?
I have really enjoyed working at one of the Big 4 banks where we deployed a custom SharePoint application using the Agile methodology using .NET and jQuery. But the most interesting project I've worked on so far has been my work over in Hong Kong working for a client in the airline industry. I've been involved with the implementation of Microsoft Project Server, as well as helping with reporting, administration, user training, and assisting with Sharepoint. It has been an incredibly busy time but the days have flown by - which is how you know you are really enjoying your job!
